Sale 1127 Lot 65
Birdstone, Porphyry, Popeye: Bluish-green granite with medium phenocrysts and described by Earl as a reptile shaped birdstone. A low-slung specimen with the unusual feature of an angular jaw and downturned head. It has ridges running between the jaw and the raised conical eyes. There is a very small chip on the left eye. 3 3/4 x 1 5/8 Midland Co. Michigan Found by Doug Mapes in Section 26 of Homer Twp. about 4 1/2 miles west of Midland on the banks of the Pine River. Later collected by William F. Hunter. Pictured two times in BNAI, in color plate V (page 98) and page 455-E as well as WW#5 page 19 with the King and his Court. T3006 |
